Also to Baxter's credit is the introduction of Yma Sumac (pronounced ee-ma).  This incredible diva of alleged Incan origin claims a vocal range that spans four octaves - and she hits every pitch.  Recorded in 1950, The Voice of the Xtabay represents the landmark first LP recording in the Exotica genre.  Sumac's remarkable voice and Baxter's unmistakable style place Ataypura (High Andes) among the earliest and strangest contribution to the exotix repertoire.
