Melgar is a most unusual piece.  A Vals, it is one of the most successful of the group.  Introduced by duetting Quenas, it introduces a high-lying line easily delivered by Yma.  Guitar, accordion and flutes provide the accompaniment.  Sections of high staccati show her prowess in the area of high E flat and F.  Also recorded by Wara Wara in the 1960s, Yma's version has a more authentic feel to the music and its performance.  And her instrument is also more lambent as it stretches itself into the upper regions of the voice.  Also recorded well, there is a rich beauty to the float of Yma's top register that is an attraction in itself.  Like many of these 1943 songs there are a number of sections, this one however finds them more tightly knit together.
